Mission Statement
Creating the Leaders of Tomorrow!

Lawton Academy believes that gifted children are an important resource for solving problems of the future. As such, it is our intent to encourage students to think as employers rather than employees. It is the responsibility of this school to provide a differentiated curriculum aimed at meeting the needs of gifted students. Classes are designed to engage students in meaningful research, to develop problem-solving strategies, and to promote critical and creative thinking. Students will be offered a rigorous curriculum that will not only satisfy their intellectual curiosity, but will also create the opportunity for maximizing potential. Because gifted students learn well in several modalities, the students at Lawton Academy will be required to explore the arts and sciences fully, with participation in advanced-level classes and fine arts (music, art, technology, public speaking/theater) being required of all students. Being identified as a “gifted learner” is not necessary for admission. Self-motivated learners do very well at Lawton Academy and are highly encouraged to apply.

Our definition of “Gifted”

Gifted Student: A student who demonstrates a high degree of intellectual and/or creative ability(ies), who exhibits an exceptionally high degree of motivation and/or excels in specific academic fields, and who needs special instruction and/or special ancillary services to achieve at levels commensurate with his or her abilities.

We do not require that students be identified as “gifted” on a test for admission. Admission to our program is based upon previous performance and a personal interview.

 

Accreditation

Lawton Academy is accredited by AdvancEd/North Central Accreditation Agency which is recognized for accreditation by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.  Lawton Academy is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students (SEVP).
