Samantha Phillips
Secondary Science Teacher
Mrs. Phillips is a graduate of Cameron University, holding a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Biology. Before joining the classroom, she worked as a health educator with the Comanche County Health Department, where she led public health education initiatives in schools, community centers, and nonprofit settings. She also has experience as a substance abuse counselor in a correctional facility. Her background brings a real-world depth to her teaching, especially in areas related to behavioral health, public wellness, and social responsibility.
Certified as a Behavioral Health Wellness Coach and a Youth Mental Health First Aid Responder, Mrs. Phillips is passionate about supporting students not only academically but holistically. Her concern for youth mental health, cultivated through years of community work, has deepened her commitment to classroom environments that promote self-awareness, self-advocacy, cultural inclusion, and critical thinking.
Her teaching style is interactive and exploratory, grounded in applied activities and collaborative projects, and designed to challenge students while making learning fun, immersive, and relevant. She loves to bring topics to life – connecting historical events to current social and political conversations and encouraging students to become co-learners as they explore the world around them. Her classroom is a place where relevance meets rigor, and where curiosity fuels new perspectives.
When she’s not teaching, Mrs. Phillips enjoys spending time with her husband Dean and their five children – one adult, one in college, and three energetic middle and high schoolers who keep her weekends busy with competitive soccer games. She also runs a seasonal side business decorating Christmas trees, bakes cupcakes and cookies, and finds joy in party planning and helping others grow spiritually.
